Learning Support Services

Surfers Paradise State School is dedicated to providing a supportive school environment for all students.

The Special Needs Committee monitors the service provided to each student, recommends levels of support, prioritises referral of students to other services provided within the school community, and facilitates the provision of extra resources for students with special needs.

The Support Teacher Learning Difficulties assists students with learning difficulties and disabilities through diagnosis, intervention programs and resources to support students, teachers and parents. Specific programs are also offered to parents to empower them with strategies and skills to assist student learning and development.


Surfers Paradise State School receives service from a number of personnel who visit regularly to provide support for students, parents, teachers and other members of the school community.
  1. The Guidance Officer provides support for academic learning as well as social, emotional and behavioural issues for individuals and small groups.
  2. The Speech-Language Pathologist provides assistance through assessment, therapy and home programs for voice production, auditory processing and development of language skills.
  3. The Behaviour Advisory Support Team operates in conjunction with the whole school community, including care-givers, to provide support and strategies to overcome a range of behavioural difficulties.
  4. Advisory Visiting Teachers for Physical, Visual, Hearing and Intellectual Impairment and Asperger's Syndrome provide consultation and practical assistance for students, parents and teachers.

The whole school community strives to assist each student attain maximum potential academically, socially and emotionally.
